When it comes to finding the best venues on Lake Como, there are a few key factors to consider. Whether you’re planning a romantic elopement, intimate ceremony, or grand wedding, it’s essential to find a hotel or villa that fits your needs. An intimate venue offers privacy and a more personal experience, whereas a grand location can provide the space and facilities required to cater to your wedding guests.

Lake Como is ideal for those wanting an outdoor wedding ceremony, so a venue with extensive open beautiful gardens is a must to enjoy the Italian sunshine and incredible views.

But it’s also essential to consider what indoor reception rooms are available if you prefer a more shaded location for cocktail hour and/or dining.

It’s also important to consider what facilities are on offer for you and your guests to enjoy on the days either side of the wedding day. A swimming pool is a must if you love the idea of having a pool party with your family and friends. And a private dock allows your wedding party to enjoy boat rides as part of the whole wedding experience without having to venture away from the venue.

What legal documents are needed to get married in Italy if you live in another country?

Planning a wedding from overseas can feel intimidating, especially regarding the legal requirements. Whether you want a religious or civil ceremony, you will need proof of ID (e.g., a valid passport & birth certificate) and proof of residency for your own country. Further to this, and depending upon where you are from, you will either need a Certificato di Capacità Matrimoniale (CNI), a Nulla Osta, or both – which are documents that confirm there are no legal impediments for you to get married. Additional documentation may also be required, so I would advise contacting a local wedding planner and/or attorney to check precisely what is needed.

Alternatively, you may prefer a symbolic ceremony if you don’t want to deal with any legal restrictions surrounding your marriage. This type of wedding ceremony offers the flexibility to create a wedding that perfectly represents your unique love story.

Finding a Lake Como wedding planner & destination wedding suppliers

I highly recommend hiring a wedding planner to help with the planning process. Selecting a planner who knows the area and venues inside out is best. Communication is vital, so opt for someone who can effectively understand and speak English (if it’s your primary language). Trust is also crucial when planning from afar, so find a planner you can rely on to bring your vision to life. Your wedding planner can also assist you in finding the ideal vendors for your wedding, such as floral designers, cake makers, and officiants.

When it comes to choosing a Lake Como wedding photographer, this can be overwhelming – especially if you’re from another country and don’t speak Italian. Finding an English-speaking photographer to avoid language barriers is important, as communication is key. You must be able to discuss your expectations and have these fully understood and met by your photographer. It’s also best to choose a photographer with experience working on Lake Como so they are familiar with the area and know the best locations to shoot at.

What the weather is like at Lake Como

The weather can vary greatly depending on the season at Lake Como. During the summer months the climate is warm and sunny, making it the best time to visit. However, if you prefer mild temperatures with colorful landscapes, spring and fall are also great times to have your special day. Just be prepared for some spring rain and cooler temperatures in the fall.

Getting to Lake Como

Milan Airport is the closest international airport to Lake Como, which is around 52 miles (85 km) away. You can travel to Lake Como by bus or car from the airport, and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Shuttle buses depart at various times, or you can travel by taxi, Uber, or private transfer. Alternatively, the airport offers a variety of rental car company options – although it’s worth noting that the roads around the lake can be windy and narrow in parts, so it’s best to opt for the smallest vehicle to fit your needs (& luggage!).

So it’s no wonder that it is one of the most sought-after destinations in Italy for a destination wedding.
