Read on to learn why Lake Como, Italy, is one of the best places for a luxury destination wedding.
Overview of Lake Como
Lake Como is one of the most stunning resorts in all of Italy. Situated in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy, at the foothills of the Alps mountain range, this gorgeous lake boasts crystal clear waters with panoramic views over picturesque scenery.
Enveloped by stunning mountainous peaks, this luxurious resort is a haven of tranquillity and natural splendor, offering a mild climate, year round. So it’s no surprise that it is a popular destination for many high-profile celebrities, comprising A-list Hollywood stars such as George Clooney and businessman Richard Branson.
Lake Como is the third largest of the Italian lakes, with a depth of over 400 meters, and is popular with tourists worldwide. Whether looking for recreation or relaxation, Lake Como offers something for everyone. For those seeking adventure and thrills, there’s a variety of water sports available, from kayaking to windsurfing and water-skiing. On land, you are spoilt for choice, with numerous hiking and cycling trails perfect for taking in amazing views, all making for an unforgettable experience.
If you are keen to sample the local culture, you will find a variety of towns, museums, markets, and cafes to explore and enjoy the local Italian cuisine. And for those wanting relaxation, the ideal location is on the glistening shores of the lake, where you can sunbathe and soak up the sun or enjoy a boat ride across the water. Alternatively, there’s no shortage of 5-star luxury hotels dotted around the lake where you can indulge in a spa experience. Lake Como is the perfect choice for many and a traveler’s dream come true!
Why Lake Como is the perfect setting for a destination wedding
If you want a destination wedding location with breathtaking scenery – look no further than Lake Como!
This stunning Italian resort is the perfect place for unforgettable weddings surrounded by natural beauty.
And, with incredible views of the lake and the mountains, Lake Como provides a picturesque backdrop for your wedding photos. There’s also an impressive selection of luxury wedding venues, including historic villas and 5-star hotels.
The most popular wedding venues on Lake Como
When it comes to finding the best venues on Lake Como, there are a few key factors to consider. Whether you’re planning a romantic elopement, intimate ceremony, or grand wedding, it’s essential to find a hotel or villa that fits your needs. An intimate venue offers privacy and a more personal experience, whereas a grand location can provide the space and facilities required to cater to your wedding guests.
Lake Como is ideal for those wanting an outdoor wedding ceremony, so a venue with extensive open beautiful gardens is a must to enjoy the Italian sunshine and incredible views.
But it’s also essential to consider what indoor reception rooms are available if you prefer a more shaded location for cocktail hour and/or dining.
It’s also important to consider what facilities are on offer for you and your guests to enjoy on the days either side of the wedding day. A swimming pool is a must if you love the idea of having a pool party with your family and friends. And a private dock allows your wedding party to enjoy boat rides as part of the whole wedding experience without having to venture away from the venue.

What legal documents are needed to get married in Italy if you live in another country?
Planning a wedding from overseas can feel intimidating, especially regarding the legal requirements. Whether you want a religious or civil ceremony, you will need proof of ID (e.g., a valid passport & birth certificate) and proof of residency for your own country. Further to this, and depending upon where you are from, you will either need a Certificato di Capacità Matrimoniale (CNI), a Nulla Osta, or both – which are documents that confirm there are no legal impediments for you to get married. Additional documentation may also be required, so I would advise contacting a local wedding planner and/or attorney to check precisely what is needed.
Alternatively, you may prefer a symbolic ceremony if you don’t want to deal with any legal restrictions surrounding your marriage. This type of wedding ceremony offers the flexibility to create a wedding that perfectly represents your unique love story.
Finding a Lake Como wedding planner & destination wedding suppliers
I highly recommend hiring a wedding planner to help with the planning process. Selecting a planner who knows the area and venues inside out is best. Communication is vital, so opt for someone who can effectively understand and speak English (if it’s your primary language). Trust is also crucial when planning from afar, so find a planner you can rely on to bring your vision to life. Your wedding planner can also assist you in finding the ideal vendors for your wedding, such as floral designers, cake makers, and officiants.
When it comes to choosing a Lake Como wedding photographer, this can be overwhelming – especially if you’re from another country and don’t speak Italian. Finding an English-speaking photographer to avoid language barriers is important, as communication is key. You must be able to discuss your expectations and have these fully understood and met by your photographer. It’s also best to choose a photographer with experience working on Lake Como so they are familiar with the area and know the best locations to shoot at.

What the weather is like at Lake Como
The weather can vary greatly depending on the season at Lake Como. During the summer months the climate is warm and sunny, making it the best time to visit. However, if you prefer mild temperatures with colorful landscapes, spring and fall are also great times to have your special day. Just be prepared for some spring rain and cooler temperatures in the fall.
Getting to Lake Como
Milan Airport is the closest international airport to Lake Como, which is around 52 miles (85 km) away. You can travel to Lake Como by bus or car from the airport, and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Shuttle buses depart at various times, or you can travel by taxi, Uber, or private transfer. Alternatively, the airport offers a variety of rental car company options – although it’s worth noting that the roads around the lake can be windy and narrow in parts, so it’s best to opt for the smallest vehicle to fit your needs (& luggage!).
In Summary
As you can see, Lake Como is the perfect destination for a dream wedding in Italy. The picturesque views, quaint towns, and romantic atmosphere make it the ideal place for a large or intimate wedding. So it’s no wonder that it is one of the most sought-after destinations in Italy for a destination wedding. Just remember to check through all the logistics before coming to Italy so you know what legal documents are required and what options are available for your wedding party or guests.
